Looking Ahead to 2011

I have resurrected my blog and plan to actually use it in 2011 to track my struggles and accomplishments with my sewing, knitting and embroidery - but especially my sewing.

It has been a number of years since I sewed anything that required fitting.  Sewing for DGD's who are young and have straight up and down bodies is wonderful, but I no longer am straight up and down, hence the struggle part.

I have joined the Jacket A Month sew along at Stitcher's Guild and while I won't necessarily make a jacket a month or 12 total, I will make several.  Most of them will be casual, but at least one will be a fitted, lined jacket.

I have also posted on the New Year's Sewing Resolutions in Stitcher's Guild my resolutions for my sewing for 2011.  They are as follows:

1) Sort through my pattern stash and get rid of those that no longer appeal to me and keep those that are suitable for my mostly retired lifestyle (I work 2 days a week).  Purchase jacket patterns when they are on sale.
2) Sort through my UFO's and give away those that I know I no longer want to finish
3) Only use stash fabric in 2011.  I will buy interfacings, linings, etc., when they are needed
4) Use my serger/coverstitch more often
5) Make one garment a month (I am signed up for the 12 jackets sew-along, so there will be some jackets in there)
6) Make one gift a month (some of these will be embroideries)
7) Sew every day - even if only for 30 minutes

I have created a calendar on my computer listing my goals for that month and will truly enjoy crossing them off the list.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank all the members of Stitcher's Guild who give freely of their time and advice.  I also want to thank all the bloggers who also give me encouragement just by their postings.

On Saturday, I will shop Joann's for the pattern sales and will buy 5 of the jacket patterns I want to make in 2011.  I don't have any jacket patterns to suit my mostly retired lifestyle.  Since a jacket constitutes anything that has sleeves and is worn over another garment, I will make a couple of cardigan type jackets.  I will be making first the Loes Hinse Bolero Jacket (have to check stash for fabric).  I know I have suitable fabric, just have to find it.

Looking forward to 2011................
